UNIMA (the Union Internationale de la Marionette) is a worldwide organization. UNIMA stands for UNION INTERNATIONALE DE LA MARIONNETTE. This global organization was founded in 1929 and is the oldest international theater association. There are chapters in forty-three countries, and UNIMA was adopted as a member of the INTERNATIONAL THEATRE INSTITUTE in 1959, UNIMA is a member of the UNITED NATIONS EDUCATIONAL, SCIENTIFIC AND CULTURAL ORGANIZATION (UNESCO).

Viareggio Carnivale
The idea of organising a parade of floats to celebrate Carnival outdoors, all together along the streets, developed from some youths of the well-to-do society in February 1873 in the Café del Casino. Later this original event, which took place on the Sunday and Shrove Tuesday of February 1873, ripened in the Carnival of Viareggio, as it is known today; one of the most beautiful and magnificent spectacular events of the world.

We're going to use the World Wide Web to visit different countries and find out what the puppets are like in each one. Then you will make a puppet and write a play for that puppet. When we're all done, we'll have a puppet show!
